One of the goals of the lazy intelligence project is to create a structured database of all the ideas, attitudes, tactics, strategies and principles that I use in my work or thinking. The purpose with setting up this database is

  1. To learn and structure the knowledge for myself

  2. To map out the knowledge so that I can cross-pollinate it and incorporate it even more effectively into my thinking

  3. To create a free resource for anyone to use, either for learning, repetition or refinement.

I have spent my spare time since last week experimenting with different setups for the database. Currently, my intention is to structure it as follows.

Structure

Each principle will be described with a name, description and its fields/areas of use. I will then include an overall score on its universality, strength and difficulty of learning, followed by a short description of how the principle is used. The database will also include alternative names of the principle as well as related concepts. For each field/area of use, I will also include a field specific score, which will may be different from its overall score.

Based on universality, the principles will be rated as

  • Superprinciple: universal applicability

  • General principle: broad applicability

  • Situational principle: can be applied in some areas

  • Minor principle: can be applied in niche situations

Each principle will be rated based on how strong it is in practice, as a

  • Fundamental principle: If the principle is at play, the consequence of it follows with close to 100% certainty

  • Strong principle: The consequence of the principle follows more often than not

  • Firm principle: Consequences follow under the right circumstances.

  • Tentative principle: The consequences of the principle seldom follow but may do occasionally. May follow more often when combined with other principles.

I will also include a rough rating on how difficult the principle is to learn (basic use, not mastery)

  • Years

  • Months

  • Weeks

  • Days

I intend to publish version zero of the database next week, and it will include ~40 principles. The database is a work in progress, so take it for what it is for now. :)

In addition, I will post Weekly Meditation 1 on Friday.
